What You Need to Know About
International Business Insurance
Since 1956, RJ Ahmann Company has been a premier provider of international business insurance nationwide.
What is international business insurance?
If you conduct business around the world, you face unique exposures and insurance requirements. There is no such thing as an "off the shelf" international business insurance product that universally protects you. So, it's important to work with an agency that's experienced in international business insurance programs. Only then, will you receive a complete suite of protection, tailored for your unique international exposures.
Who should have international business insurance?
Any company that imports or exports products or conducts any kind of business overseas should be concerned with international business insurance exposures. Here are some specific issues of note:
- Locally admitted coverage: In many foreign countries, the local law requires you to buy locally admitted coverage. For example, Mexico requires any Mexican property to be insured by a Mexico-domiciled carrier. This is also true of many other countries including many in South America, Europe and the Middle-East. Businesses need a mechanism for purchasing insurance through foreign countries and we at RJ Ahmann can help, through our World Insurance Network Group (WING) affiliation. We will contact foreign partners and place coverage on your behalf.
- Difference in conditions (DIC) coverage: When you purchase locally admitted coverage in other countries, the breadth and depth of their coverage is often less than that provided by American insurance. DIC coverage fills the gaps in foreign coverage and brings it up to American standards.
- Liability coverage: International business carries many inherent liability risks. We will help you evaluate your liability exposures and secure the right liability insurance.
- Transit coverage: Those who export and import often require a transit insurance policy to protect against the loss or damage of goods during shipment. This coverage often needs to be extended to include the cost to recalibrate delicate equipment that is technically not damaged.
- Export import solutions: Depending on the goods that you import or export, you may have additional international needs. We offer a variety of import/export insurance solutions through our relationship with the Export-Import Bank of the United States, an agency of the U.S. government.
